Benefits

Do you ever feel trapped by your own debt? Like you're afraid to go outside, because even the thought of breathing feels like it costs something to you...

Takes money to make money - most people know that.

What's worse is when you get used to a standard of living and those resources run dry - whether it's finances, relationships, drugs, or food... I guess this is the only way to gain humility. The less we have, the more we appreciate things. Kind of ironic...

We all want what's best for ourselves in life but it's easy to forget others and how our decisions may affect them. And even if we do realize it - it's hard to make the conscious effort to do what we think may help the person next to us.

I often hear people say that they don't like the idea of money. That money is the root of all evil.

Well I have disagree. Money is nothing more than a system of value that we've created as a society to create an easier means of exchanging goods.

If you don't have a job or any input to your society, what makes you valuable? Your looks? Your persona? This ain't Hollywood people!

You don't have to like money to be wealthy - you just have to have value. And developing value takes time, effort, and a hell of a lot of practice. Whether you flip burgers, play piano, write, install television cable - you are a benefit to this society and are making use of yourself as a human.

We are arguably the most intelligent species on this planet yet so many of us find ourselves constantly complaining about the absence of opportunity.

But then again, President Obama recently made a valid point that got me to consider other people's situations and how in the world they got there.

""It's a cruel Catch-22," Obama said at a White House event with CEOs, job training groups and advocates for the unemployed. "The longer you're unemployed, the more unemployable you may seem."

Can you imagine what it's like to be in that situation?

I've been unemployed for a mere 3 weeks and I feel like my world is falling apart; I can't imagine another 24 weeks of this horrible situation.

But - I have to admit....I've had plenty of opportunities arise. For me, it all boiled down to what was more important to me - the money...or the comfort?  I'm sure many of you readers can relate...

I have a couple of interviews lined up within the next two days, and due to my financial situation I have no choice but to take one of them regardless of me liking it or not.

Because in the end, we all need to play a part in contributing to our society. Whether you're an architect or a fry cook - you are a benefit to our society!

Don't ever forget that.
